Hello,

I am aware that this is a very old thread, but wondering how your plant is doing now and if you figured out what happened then? My grown up solanum is full of buds and looked very healthy until recently when suddenly there's lots of yellow leaves on it :(

Hi, Mary,
Sorry to hear about your Solanum. Given there is no evidence of pest infestation, is there any chance it got too dry for too long? Is there anything left alive on the plant? If so, I would suggest cutting off the dead and seeing what happens.

What has happened to my solanum?

I have had my solanum crispum for over 20 years. it is growing up the front of my house in a very sheltered location with a south-west aspect. It has always been very vigorous. Suddenly it appears to have died during the last week. Can you suggest what might have caused this?

HI Gillian,

I am always guided by the colour of leaves - if they are turning yellow then I take that as a sign of a lack of nutrient. If the flowering plant has produced a disappointing show, then that pafrticularly points to a lack of potassium.

You do not say if you have been feeding the plant or not - too much nitrogen in afertiliser produces a lot of lovely leaves and not a lot else.. What you need to be using is a product that has a higher ratio of potassium to nitrogen. There is one on the market that is perfect - Westland Feed All, but if you cannot get this one, then Top Rose has the same nutrient ratio, but one application will only last for 3 months, rather than the 6 months with the Westland product.

Hi, Gillian,
Where is your Solanum planted? Did it get too much or too little water this year? Have you had a chance to inspect for pests? If you have an account, and this is in your 'Plants I Have' list you can look over all the care instructions to see if the information provides clues to what is going on. If that doesn't seem to help, please let me know.

My solanum crispum, the leaves are turning yellow and dropping. The flowers were also very poor this year. Can anyone help?
